Steve Scarlett, author of The Chain Diaries, which was published in August 2022, is a British writer who currently lives in Hailsham, East Sussex. His life experiences have profoundly influenced his storytelling. Born in Crowborough 1957, he attended two local schools, Sir Henry Fermor Church of England primary school, and the Crowborough Beacon Comprehensive. In 1974, Steve embarked on a distinguished career in the Royal Navy. He served for over two decades, including participating in the Falklands War in 1982, the Armilla patrols in the Persian Gulf in 1988 and worked on a NATO arms control team at the end of the Cold War. He left the Royal Navy in 1997. His naval tenure took him across the globe, exposing him to diverse cultures and geopolitical landscapes, which later enriched the intricate settings of his literary works.
Steve transitioned into civilian life, applying his discipline and leadership skills to various roles, including software development, database manipulation and the creation of websites.
In 2011, Steve’s life took a poignant turn when his wife, Nemone, had a stroke and was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition, CADASIL. For the next twelve years, he dedicated himself as her primary caregiver, a role that deepened his understanding of love, sacrifice, and the human spirit. Nemone’s passing in 2023 marked the end of a profound chapter in his life, leaving an indelible impact on his perspective and writing.
Steve balances his time between writing, grandfather duties, and engaging with the community. He is a member of the local branch of the Royal British Legion and volunteers at a local youth club for the over fifty-fives. The Chain Diaries, his debut novel, is based on a collection of true stories, intertwining his rich tapestry of experiences, offering readers a narrative steeped in authenticity and emotional depth.
