The Hailsham Festival of Arts & Culture returns for its 20th Anniversary this September and invites young artists from the age of 4 to 18 to get involved and celebrate two weeks of arts and culture in and around Hailsham.

Join us in celebrating a legacy of creative expression from the past two decades by entering  our Children’s Art Competition in collaboration with Gallery North Art Gallery and sponsored by Lightning Fibre Full Fibre Broadband Network, Knockhatch Adventure Park and BourneFree Magazine.

2026 Themes:

Prehistoric World:  For our 20th Anniversary Festival we will be welcoming Dinosaur puppets to our Street Festival Celebration on the 5th September.  They’ll be roaming through Hailsham’s high street alongside dance, music, magic and lots of  participation from Hailsham’s community organisations and charities.  We would love your students and young artists to get involved and create art to

celebrate this theme.

You can interpret our dinosaur theme however you would like and we have included a few ideas to help you get started…

3D: Carnival props e.g. Masks, head-dresses, puppets , flags, lanterns or models of dinosaurs, dinosaur world shoebox dioramas or fossil sculptures

2D: Paintings or drawings of dinosaurs, prehistoric worlds, fossils and landscapes or prehistoric plants – all mediums welcomed. 2D work does not need to be framed, but if the work is on
paper, please ensure it is mounted on a rigid board so that it can be displayed.

The World Around You: Celebrate the world around you! Living in Sussex – we have lots of beautiful spaces that we can visit – from the seaside to the South Downs and everything in between. Do you have a local landmark that you like to visit?  Is there a special place in or around Hailsham that means something to you?  Create a masterpiece that celebrates the world around you.

All 2D and 3D mediums welcomed – sculpture, collage, painting and drawing.

2D work does not need to be framed, but if the work is on paper, please ensure it is mounted on a rigid board so that it can be displayed.
