Phill & Rog grew up in the 1960’s listening to and loving the creative genius of the rock musicians of the time. This inspired the duo into a lifetime of playing in bands (some more successful than others!) before coming together in the successful 9 piece soul/funk band The Big Kahuna, Phill on sax and Rog on lead vocals.

Now, Phill and Rog have gone back to their roots, picked up their guitars and formed Straker-Newman to play their favourite music from the past 60 years. Great songs written by: Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Winwood, Paul Weller, the Foo Fighters, The Eagles, Green Day, The Killers, Crowded House, Travis, Elbow, Mike & The Mechanics, R.E.M., Mumford & Sons, Bon Jovi, Nick Cave and more.

With Phill’s rich acoustic interpretation of these songs they both love and Rog’s powerful vocals & harmonica playing, they hope you love them too!

Jayne & Philip have between them over 40 years of playing in bands & in a solo capacity. They discovered they shared a love of country and folk songs. Performing together they tell the story in the lyrics – back to the simplicity of acoustic guitar and songs in harmony.
