Lee Miller’s War
80 minute performance version narrated by her son and biographer Antony Penrose in which Ami Bouhassane, Lee Miller’s granddaughter, is the voice of Lee Miller, reading from her original manuscripts and letters.
Lee Miller is thought to be the only woman combat photographer with the allied infantry in Europe during WW II. This lecture presents her war photojournalism from shortly after D Day in Normandy to the flames leaping from Hitler’s Berghof near Berchtesgaden that signalled the end of the war, and the post war traumas of Austria and Hungary. The story is told through extensive use of Lee Miller’s own words set to her photographs.
- Contains some war time images which may be disturbing.
- A dramatic and hard hitting production that gives the essence of Lee Miller’s work as a writer and photographer.
There will be other visiting writers, with book signings, craft stalls etc..
During the day between 1.00and 2.00pm the winners of The Festival Adult Short Story Competition,The Twist At The End Of The Tale, will be announced and presented with their prizes, including a perpetual memorial cup for The Best Short Story. This cup is in memory of one of the group’s original members, Pam Turner, who sadly died earlier this year. The winners will then be invited to share their stories with us.This is a free event which Hailsham Town Council has kindly sponsored, and which will be opened by The Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Paul Holbrook
