Creative Writing – Anthology and Competitions

This year we will be running our poetry and short-story competitions as well as inviting submissions for our non-competitive Festival Anthology.


If you would like to write something and see it in print, without being part of a competition, then send it to 21st August 2021. Stories should be no longer than 500 words and poems should not exceed 30 lines. You can find our 2020 Anthology here.

Short Story and Poetry Competitions

Short stories by children should not exceed 500 words  (Junior and Senior school age groups only).

Poetry should not exceed 30 lines  (All age groups)

We are looking for your imagination……    so the subject matter is open, but anything offensive or unsuitable may be disqualified.  All  competition winners will be included in the Anthology, Please notify us when sending in your competition entry if you do NOT want your piece to be published in the Anthology.

Entries will be judged by a panel of 5 independent literary experts, and their decision will be final.

Age groups will be in line with the school year groups, i.e. Junior: Years 1 – 7; Senior: Years  8 – 11;  Adult – age 17 or over.    Prizes will be awarded to top 3 in each age group.1st £15, 2nd £10 and 3rd £5.
